University of Alabama Coach Nick Saban will make $5.54 million this season, gift-wrapped by his unpaid 18-22 year old players.
Any lasting images of Nick Saban have to start with him bitching at some poor (literally) kid on the sideline who has just had a holding penalty or missed a tackle. Besides being a habitual liar, such as when he frequently denied he was going leave the NFL for college, Saban also has a bad habit of being a jerk toward his players.
Tonight's November 30, 2013 Iron Bowl was one of the biggest ever in the long history of Auburn vs. Alabama. Auburn came into the game ranked 4th in the nation with a record of 10-1. Alabama was 11-0, ranked #1, and with a clear path to another national championship.
Saban was in his characteristically ugly form all game, pouting after missed field goals and yelling at players whenever possible. Then with the game tied 28-28 with 1 second left, he decided to attempt a 57-yard field goal with a kicker who only had 2 attempts in his career. Auburn's Chris Davis caught the miss at the goal line and ran it back over 100 yards for the touchdown and the 34-28 victory.
Even announcer Gary Danielson saw that coming.
It's poetic justice that Saban who blames everyone but himself is the one who ended the dynasty or at least cost his team the game.
As for Auburn, it marks the 2nd straight game that they had an unbelievable finish. In the November 16th 43-38 win vs. Georgia, Ricardo Louis caught a 73 yard deflected pass from Nick Marshall on 4th down for the go-ahead touchdown.
Ohio State survived their game at Michigan today, 42-41. Therefore, it remains to be seen if the voters will choose a one loss SEC team or go with Florida State vs. Ohio State.
