The series of InuYasha was imagined by the incredible mind of Rumiko Takahashi. The series follows the half demon, InuYasha, and a 15-year-old girl from Tokyo, Kagome Higurashi, who is transported to the Sengoku period after falling into a well in her family shrine, where she meets InuYasha. When a monster from that era tries to take the magical Jewel of Four Souls embodied in Kagome, she accidentally shatters the Jewel into many pieces that are dispersed across Japan. InuYasha and Kagome start traveling to recover it before the powerful demon Naraku finds all the shards. InuYasha and Kagome gain several allies during their journey namely Shippo, Miroku, and Sango. The story begins in Tokyo, Japan, with a fifteen-year-old middle school girl named Kagome Higurashi, who lives on the grounds of her family's hereditary Shinto shrine with her mother, grandfather and her little brother named Sota. When she goes into the well house to retrieve her cat, a centipede demon bursts out of the enshrined “Bone Eater's Well” and pulls her back into the well with it. Instead of hitting the bottom of the well, however, Kagome continues to fall as though through a portal, and reappears in the ancient Sengoku period of Japan. Apparently, the demon had previously attacked a village near the well in the Sengoku period, in pursuit of a magical jewel known as the “Jewel of Four Souls”. It had attempted to kill the jewel's keeper, a woman who looked very like Kagome; and now the demon has mistaken Kagome for this woman. The demon attacks her, planning to consume both her and the Jewel to absorb the incredible power. In a moment of desperation, Kagome unseals a half demon trapped by a sacred arrow against a nearby tree. The half-demon, InuYasha, easily defeats the centipede demon, but he might actually be a bigger problem himself. He was sealed to the tree fifty years previously by a priestess named Kikyo, who also turns out to have been the keeper of the Jewel-- and Kagome's previous incarnation. Kikyo had requested, upon her death, that the Jewel be burned with her in her funeral pyre so no one could ever abuse its tremendous power. Although InuYasha destroys the centipede, the Sacred Jewel is later shattered into numerous shards that disperse across Japan. Even the individual shards are capable of granting great power, and are eagerly sought by humans and demons alike. InuYasha and Kagome set out to collect the shards to avoid disasters caused by the “Sacred Jewel of Four Souls”. Now that we have a knowledge basis for the story, how about we give a bit of a character background area? The main protagonists are as follows:

Shippo is an orphaned young fox demon who attempted to steal Shikon Jewel shards from Kagome Higurashi and the half-demon Inuyasha, wanting to become much stronger and avenge his father's death at the hands of The Thunder Brothers. Though his plan fails, Kagome and Inuyasha aid him after hearing his story, and he becomes their companion for the rest of the series.

Immediately after being released from his fifty-year seal, Inuyasha wanted to become a demon and acquire power quickly by using the Shikon Jewel. In the rage of battle, he ceased to have concerns for the lives of others. However, after meeting Kagome and other humans, he came to understand the truth about being a demon and began to search for true strength of spirit. His intention to become a demon went from finding his place in the world to wanting to protect his companions but he began to harbor doubts over it, since Miroku said he would never be the same that he was before, and could possibly kill Kagome and other innocent people. He had no desire to lose his human spirit anymore nor would he want to kill Kagome. Over the course of the series, as his bond with Kagome deepened, Inuyasha's goal to become a demon faded and he was pleased with just remaining a half-demon.

Kagome is unforgiving of anyone who opposed her sense of justice, even when there is a large difference in power. A notable example of this is when she almost killed Naraku out of her disgust and fury towards his evil, manipulative nature. Since then, she had wanted him destroyed as much as her companions. Without waiting for someone to help her, she jumps into situations that sometimes put her in danger. However, she never learns her lesson. Kagome's reckless courage is known to always be in full force. Although she did not know left from right in the Warring States era at first, and people kept calling her Kikyō's reincarnation because of her striking resemblance as well as spiritual power to her, she felt no fear and stayed strong. She takes pride in just being herself, and is adamantly persistent at being much more than a "Kikyō look alike".

If he failed to defeat Naraku, his life would be cut short by the Kazaana curse set upon by Naraku in his right hand. The threat of dying on his head, he forged under heaven's command in the face of his cruel destiny which was later reverted due to Naraku's death. He has a strong spirit that allows him to conduct himself in an easygoing manner, not showing his weaknesses and hiding his true feelings. As his body is in the service of Buddha, his soul is well-balanced.

Because she grew up and worked as a Demon Slayer, she has a strong sense of responsibility along with a brave heart. On the other hand, she has feminine emotions, weaknesses, and many human aspects. Consequently, her personality wavers depending on her feelings. Although she is a compassionate person, she displays a bit more of a no-nonsense attitude than Kagome.

The antagonists (primarily Naraku) are evil individuals, bent on taking the “Jewel of Four Souls”, and using the power for foul deeds! I shall list them here;

Naraku was the main antagonist of the entire series. He was directly responsible for the death of the character Kikyō and the seal placed on the series' protagonist, Inuyasha. He was also the cause of most of the problems and struggles facing the other major characters, making his destruction the main focus of their quest due to the pain he has personally caused them.

- Sesshōmaru
Sesshōmaru was the son of the Great Dog Demon and his mate. He saw his father as the ultimate opponent, wishing to defeat him in combat and take his two legendary swords, Tessaiga and Sō'unga, to begin his reign of Supreme Conquest. He talked with his father following the battle with Ryūkotsusei, demanding the two swords be handed over to him. However, when questioned if he had anyone to protect, Sesshōmaru told his father that he did not; little did he know, Sesshōmaru needed to have someone to protect as it would teach him the compassion needed to wield the Tessaiga. After his father died to protect his new half-demon half-brother, Inuyasha, and his human mother, Sesshōmaru began hating them. He was given the Tenseiga instead of the other two swords, to teach him compassion.

Now that the antagonists have been explained, and the story is laid out, go and watch this amazing piece of work!
