When Smutty was a young snake-clown — late 80s, early 90s — he enjoyed watching the Disney Afternoon tv block. The DuckTales cartoon was maybe the most likable of all shows. It had a crack-level-addictive theme song, glued-to-the-tv stories, and fan-worthy characters. Who was not always hoping that Scrooge would find gold or that the Beagle Boys would rob the city's banks, or accomplish whatever the hell else they were trying to do that day?

Now Disney, besides buying up most of the trash-entertainment companies on earth, is going back to the DuckTales well. The new cartoon series began airing in August 2017 and has already been renewed for a second season.

Seeing how the sequel hardly ever lives up to the original, and how Disney becomes more gay each year, is the new DuckTales worth our time? Let's ask the anons on 4chan's /co/ board:

Generic "plays it safe" jokes. Feels like entire show is put through a TVTropes machine and it pumps out a script.

    As opposed to?

Seriously, what was edgy or subversive about the original Ducktales?

As opposed to a show where giving the characters individual personalities and actors rather than voice actors would make you think the comedic timing would be sharper and a lot less dull. I never made a comparison that it was generic compared to old Ducktales, just generic in general. Don't get so offended because one person in this thread dislikes the show, DucktalesFag.

    >hypercompetent females
>dopey, emasculated and inept males
>frequent focus on Webby as protagonist
>the “lore”
>the “jokes”
It’s shit.

Girl duck has potential but writers keep aggressively wanting to make her a Mabel. I wish they'd stop.

Also I still can't tell the triplets apart but I also don't care because their stories are not interesting. Donald Duck and Scrooge are the most captivating characters, imo.

I wish Launchpad wasn't so retarded.

Most of them aren't voice actors, they're just actors from mostly sitcoms. And none of them deliver their lines in a funny way. They say their lines flat and the pacing is pretty slow for what is suppose to be quip humor. The jokes are lame and predictable. It pretty much uses the equivalent of cliches like:

>It's up to the four of us to save the day!
>Ok!! (Character trips)
>We're all doomed.

>Uncle Scrooge is an old quack, he doesn't know what to do and -- he's standing right behind me, isn't he?

>I will never do that plan, never. Never ever ever ever!
>(Cut to them doing the plan)

And so on. Very bottom barrel, generic writing.

>What is wrong with the current crop as opposed the originals?
Quit mentioning the originals, I never said shit about the originals. I'm judging the show based on its own merits, and for a comedy cartoon, it's pretty unfunny.

Too much Webby. Not enough McDuck.

Disney decided to air episodes that makes the over arching narrative make zero sense. The crew has an official order in mind but Disney decided to say, “FUCK IT! LETS AIR THEM BY PRODUCTION ORDER!” Or some shit like that.

    i dont like it
It's not ducktales.
It's some "smug face kids daily life...oh yeah and they also ducks" tales.
Fuck this shit.
Also the art style and animation of this show is fucking bland. I hate thin lines.

    >Dead weight characters like Webby and Beakely
>Executive meddling Poochies
>The Triplet’s have even less personality, which is especially bad becuase they already only have one to share
>Little to no Donald, despite him being one of the most fleshed our characters in the comics and his relationship and interactions with Scrooge the Best
>Made Magica looks like a sixty year old woman, despite being a young sorceress
>the adventures themselves can’t hold a candle to stories like “Only a Poor Old Man”, “Back to the Klondike”, “The Secret of Atlantis”, “The Horseradish Story”, “North of the Yukon” and so on

The Pilot two parter actually showed that such a thing can be done well. Where they are faltering is that they very rarely have the triplets show off their newfound personalities by interacting with each other, often having them split up, or just stand around for comedy relief while while on particular triplet gets the spotlight, and that they do not have the triplets be as useful, either individually or as a team, as they should, making them seem like liabilities.

This is understandable as, including Webby no longer being worthless, they now have three more characters they have to juggle, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is still a problem. They’d probably do better if they didn’t try to make every episode a character development or moral episode somehow, and just let them be about the adventures themselves.

Eh, aside from the Mark Beaks-episode which indeed was about Dewey's feeling that he doesn't measure up to his brother, I would rather claim that the Terra-Firmian episode was more about showcasing Huey's stubborness about being set in his ways than an unwillingness to go on adventures.
His confidence was shattered after he was shown to be wrong, so he then retreats to his small tiny illuminated world, where everything he sees is at least still so as he knows it should be, even although it would obviously crush him.
But now that I'm thinking about, it seems that Huey does have a rather fragile ego when looking at the Mark Beaks and Terra-Firmian episode. If things don't go the way they are expected to work out, he snaps.

The Toth-Ra episode final part was a little bit more farfetched when they had Louie fall into a dangerous situation by having him make Toth-Ra's mummy dance like a fool and then accidentally trip across the forbidden seal.
Then again, it really didn't seem far out of character for him to do so based upon his character traits as established in the pilot and The Great Dime Chase. And it gave us a rampaging mummy with deadly laserbeams as action climax, so I'm okay with it.
Louie really didn't do much wrong.
And that's why he's the best of the triplets. For now.

To be honest I find the show to be completely and utterly lacking any sense of adventure and that kind of kills it for me. Every hint of adventure is a fake-out, dryly played off as an obvious moral or a dry, sarcastic subversion. Like if you took The Venture Bros and made it only about Hank, Dean, and the Doc reacting to things with varying degrees of wryness. Which, all said, is probably wouldn't be the worst show out there, but it would still be taking out much of what makes it work.

Looks like there's one thing most anons agree on — the token character Webby sucks!

instead of fixing the "Scrapy" Webby ever the writers are bending over backward to make her likable? Are these the only times these moments happen or are there more?

they "fixed" her by turning "Ducktales" into "The Webby Show featuring some other fuckers"

Webby continues to be the worst part of the show.

I am eggstadic to see Webby changing the game. She has broken the glass ceiling on feminine ducks in cartoons. Should get a Google doodle in her honor!
